The Guide Dog Foundation (GDF) is a non-profit organization based out of Long Island, New York. GDF was founded in 1946 with the mission of improving the quality of life for people who are blind, have low vision, or other disabilities by providing them with guide or service dogs at no cost to them.

Once each applicant makes the decision to get a guide dog, they are openly welcomed into the GDF community, and they are supported with an uncompromising commitment to excellence, from highly qualified trainers to a meticulous curriculum. The GDF makes sure to pair each applicant to the right dog, which makes the bond between service dog and handler incredibly strong.

In 2003, the Guide Dog Foundation saw that there was beginning to be a greater need for guide dogs and specialized service dogs to help disabled veterans live in independence. As a result, America's VetDogs (AVD) was born, which is now a separate organization. While we currently do not have any dogs on campus that are on the PTSD curriculum through AVD, it is possible that we will have some in the future.
